BOKA meeting to decide Bathai's future

The critical item on the agenda is the future of the association’s president, Tshepho Bathai.
The term for the current committee runs until 2021 but Bathai faces a potential ouster. Sensei Socca Moruakgomo told Mmegi Sport that they are unhappy with the running of BOKA.
He said some of the issues started during the 2019 UFAK Championships, which Gaborone hosted in July, where some coaches were fired, while other individuals are owed. “We want Bathai to explain a lot of things at the OGM. Things that are happening have never taken place in karate. So it is only right for him to step down if he fails to provide us with answers,” he said.
Meanwhile, vice president-technical, Union Kgafela has been slapped with a suspension letter. Mmegi Sport is informed that the suspension came after comments Kgafela made alleging that the executive committee was tired of Bathai and wanted him out.
It is said the entire committee signed the suspension letter. Contacted for comment, Kgafela said he was unaware of his suspension.
“There was an executive meeting last week Wednesday, which I attended. I have not received that suspension letter,” he said.
Despite the denial, Bathai confirmed the suspension saying Kgafela acknowledged receiving the letter by email.
“I do not want to get involved much in the issue because it was not my decision but that of the committee. They signed the letter on their own,” he said.
Bathai said it was untrue that there was an executive meeting last week. He said the last meeting that they held was in September. Kgafela is accused of making it difficult for the committee to function. A source said Kgafela is a difficult man to deal with. Some claimed that maybe it was because he belonged to a different faction during BOKA elections.
“He does not care about coaches and he is never there for them. He just wants to select the team, which is not his field. I think the position is too big for him. All he want is to see certain underperforming athletes in the team,” the source said.
