Chillstep Sundays is a movement which helps promote arts and culture in the country. It has previously invited a number of upcoming and established artists from different art avenues to exhibit their crafts.

Drew Chadhall, the founder of Chillstep Sundays, said they have introduced a segment that will reward, encourage and mentor students between the ages of 13 and 18 years. “This initiative serves to bring attention to, and develop talent among the youth in Botswana interested in the arts sector,” Chadhall stated.

Every month students will submit unfinished samples to the Chillstep Sundays organisers. The samples will be posted on different social media platforms for public viewing and voting will be done through texting. The date for submissions is yet to be announced. Chadhall encouraged all students around the country to submit their work as they stand an opportunity to win P1,500 prize money, accompanied by merchandise. “For now fine arts and sculptures is what we will focus on. Along with promoting and encouraging talent, the student competition aims to instill a sense of pride in students who perform well in this regard, hence the awarding of the prize at the winner’s school assembly. Mentorship will also be provided to the winning students by way of advice and talks to be provided by inspirational influencers in the field,” Chadhall said.

Students are required to submit their work to submissions@popupbw.com or on the Chillstep Sunday Facebook page.

Chillstep Sundays has previously given a number of upcoming artists such as Nick Bonte and Tebogo Cranwell a platform to exhibit their crafts. The art exhibition has widened its base as it has welcomed players such as fashion designers to exhibit their clothing line collections.

This month’s Chillstep Sundays session will take place on Sunday at Zambezi Towers Basement.
