Combined opposition candidate, Seitiso Ditlhong was described as a hard working youth who can articulate issues of the Kelemogile ward very well when voted into council. Ditlhong will be representing the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) during the July 16 by-election. The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) will be represented by Best Mosadi.

Speaking at a well-attended launch, BCP chairperson Motsei Rapelana asked Kelemogile ward residents to vote for a woman who is still active and knows the problems of the ward very well. The launch was attended by both BCP members and coalition partners, Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).

The campaign teams across the parties are expected to camp at Ramotswa in order to solicit people to vote for their party.

“Ditlhong has been a hard working youth in the party and she was working hand in hand with the late councillor. This woman knows the problems of the ward very well and she has been working well with ward elders.

I urge residents of this ward to vote for her. We won’t be shaken by the fact that BDP is parading MP Bagalatia Arone today. We don’t have a problem with Arone having defected to BDP but we wonder why he was not welcomed at his constituency,” Rapelana said.

Rapelana said Kelemogile ward is one of the areas that are not developed and it needs someone who can speak about it with a strong voice.  Meanwhile at the BDP rally, Mosadi was described as an elderly man who has a loving heart.

“His works speak for him. Mosadi knows the needs of elders, youth and people who live with disability. He has been standing for the rights of people living with disability and has done a lot for them.

Our party has good programmes that benefit and will keep on benefiting Batswana,” BDP secretary general Botsalo Ntuane said.

He said it is not certain that opposition parties will give Batswana free education and good programmes like the BDP does when voted in power.

“Party e ya rona e tshwere gotlhe mo le go batlang. Kante mathata a lona ke eng le go thopha ba kganetso (Our party has everything that you need. What’s your problem with voting for the opposition?” he asked rhetorically.

In the last general elections, BCP was voted by 1,069, BDP 550 and UDC got a paltry 65 votes.
