Alleged rapist remains in police custody

 

The accused allegedly raped the child on April 16, 2016 at around 8pm in Lobatse.  He is also alleged to have on a second occasion raped the child on May 30.

The accused pleaded for bail saying, “I have valuable property left at home which I need to put to safety because it is very important”.

However, chief magistrate Mareledi Dipate denied the accused bail further remanding him in police custody. The state, through Sub Inspector Bakani Tsayang of Woodhall Police Station said the child was yet to meet a social worker.

“We plead for the accused person’s further remand in custody, we are yet to consult with a social worker to see if the child can be taken to a safe facility or not,” Tsayang said.

In another matter, Dipate sentenced two men in separate cases, Obakeng Sharp and Phenyo Tlou, to 18 months and five years imprisonment, respectively.  Sharp was found guilty of possession of 3.8 grammes of dagga whilst Tlou was sentenced to five years imprisonment for attempting to rob Goitseone Motukwa of her brown handbag containing property valued at P1,330 on June 8, 2016 in Pitikwe location, Lobatse.
