ECCO City Greens will be run under a new improved model

The new model will see a general manager appointed to head an interim committee. It was the players’ idea and was endorsed by the club’s stakeholders at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held over the weekend.

The new arrangement entrusts the general manager with the powers to elect four other members to work with, while the stakeholders elect two members to make a committee of seven.

Mothusi Jowawa, who was elected the general manager, immediately co-opted Mothibedi Latlhang (chairman), Dimakatso Kebuang (secretary), Bless Mahwa (treasurer) and Itumeleng Mafa as the vice to all the committee members. Stakeholders elected Gift Keaitse and Tshepo Modise as the assistant manager and and welfare manager respectively.

Jowawa said the idea of a simpler structure is ideal to curb confusion and allow for the smooth running of the club. He said the mandate of the new committee is more of implementation and returning the team to its glory days. “The reason is simple,” said Jowawa. “We advocate for progress therefore we need easy flow of ideas and decisions. “We deliberately chose to drop the complex structure that is in our constitution, which allowed for many people in the committee.

As a result there was too much clash of egos and ideas and from experience we have learnt it was often difficult to reach common ground which disturbed progress.” “Football runs with ideas that are implemented. With the new interim committee we have people that can finance their ideas. This is to, at least put them (ideas) in motion before the rest of the team can help facilitate. That is if we reckon that they can be of benefit to the growth of the club. We have people that can help move the club,” he added. Jowawa also said after they reached a common ground at the AGM they are confident they will manage to retain their best players. He also said they have secured sponsorship for players in the form of a scholarship.

“We are aware that our players have been engaged in talks with other teams but this (new committee) was their idea. Now that it has been implemented they are happy and we are confident that they will stay with us.

We have also secured 25 places for Certificate in Sales and Marketing scholarships for our players at Gaborone University College of Law and Professional Studies in a bid to improve them academically,” he said.
