Mmelesi signed for Flamingoes in the off-season after failing to secure a move at BTC Premiership side, Gaborone United (GU).

He was lured to Flamingoes by team coach, Rapelang ‘Razor’ Tsatsilebe who has been given a target of helping the team gain promotion to the BTC Premiership.

Mmelesi has found the net four times in five matches for the Debswana First Division North outfit. Sua occupy second spot in the league, two points behind leaders, Nico United.

The skillful striker joined Flamingoes from Digodi FC. Prior to joining Digodi, the 28-year-old spent two years at Sharps in the Premier League before his contract was terminated.

Sharps spotted him while playing for Division One side Digodi who campaign in the Kgatleng region league.

When Mmelesi joined Sharps he was tipped for greatness. His most memorable run was scoring nine league goals in as many games in his last season at Sharps.

“I terminated my contract with Sharps because Digodi managed to secure me a job as a messenger for one construction company. At Sharps, it was difficult to survive owing to the club’s financial challenges.” “At Flamingoes, I believe that I am in the right environment.

I have a coach who understands and values me. I have no doubt that I will recapture my form and realise my full potential,” he said. Mmelesi said his goal is to help Flamingoes gain promotion to the elite league.

“My ultimate goal is to succeed in the Premier League. I am hopeful that we will win promotion. Should we win promotion my intention is to stay with the team because I believe it has the best set up to help me succeed.

I also think if I keep on improving at Sua, I will be able to attract more suitors at the end of the season. I really want to succeed as a footballer and win honours in the Premier League. Lately, things have been going well for me and I believe I am on the right track,” he said.

He is contracted to Flamingoes until the end of the season.

Mmelesi also talked about his failed move to GU. “I trained with the team for some time during the off season. There was no indication that I will be signed.

While still training with GU, Razor approached me with an offer to join Flamingoes and I did not hesitate. He is someone I love working with,” he said.

Tsatsilebe offered reasons why he signed Chawa, as Mmelesi is also affectionately known.  “I worked with him at Sharps.

I signed him because I thought Flamingoes would give him a perfect opportunity to rekindle his career. Above all, I believe he has the experience and the quality to help us win promotion,” Tsatsilebe said.
