Premier League games make way for polls

The Botswana Premier League (BPL) said the decision was meant to allow all the stakeholders a chance to cast their votes.
“After consultation with the Botswana Premier League Management Committee, we agreed to postpone Week 7 fixtures (which were to be played from Saturday, October 26 to Sunday October 27) to allow stakeholders such as players and supporters to go cast their votes,” the BPL said in a statement.
“We also felt that teams would not have enough time to prepare for the games as some of them have to travel to far places such as Kasane and Maun,” it added.
The teams will have yet another break in just less than a month after the international break a fortnight ago. The games have been moved to next week with the actual dates yet to be confirmed.
The postponed Week 7 matches included a mouth-watering clash between holders, Township Rollers and runners up, Jwaneng Galaxy.
Security Systems’ coach was set for a return in Lobatse to face his former side, Extension Gunners. The Alarm Boys have been on a rampage this season, as they remain undefeated after six games. A 5-0 win over Prisons XI in the past weekend sent warning signs to league rivals.
There were wins for Orapa United and Rollers as they keep the chase on Systems. United came out as 1-0 victors against Molepolole City Stars while Popa mauled Gilport Lions 3-1.
Bottom placed, Notwane halted their depressing streak with a goalless draw against city rivals, Gaborone United.
The Reds’ coach, Nikola Kavazovic was on the bench for the first time and could not inspire his troops to victory on Saturday. Gunners also had positive results as they cleared their ‘debt’ with a win over Morupule Wanderers at the Selebi-Phikwe Stadium.
Gunners are on zero points and are in 15th spot.
