Fun side of cinema

Anger is the main subject of this comedy. The concept of the movie is a 3D computer-animated action-adventure comedy film based on the video game series of the same name. What makes it fun to watch is that comedy superstars like Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage all synonymous for films like Horrible Bosses, The Wedding Ringer and Game of Thrones respectively add their charm. Together, their star power brings this video game adaptation to the pinnacle of funny with voiceovers, and with CGI-SFX looks as Red the ugly, Chuck the naïve and Mighty Eagle the false imposter. Apparently this plot is what had movie enthusiasts tickled to the max, “The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride), have always been outsiders. Red and other misfits are thrown into anger management class. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it is up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to at the same time battling social issues such as rejection by their natives”.
Amazingly this cool film was produced by a duo of two amateur directors who were testing the waters with this as their directorial debuts.
Action
I personally wanted to watch this film for my own funny and weird reasons, particularly because there is a computer virus called Angry Bird. So, the film has a dose of romance and mystique to it, to most of us who never saw the video game series the curiosity as to what makes the birds angry turns into a fascinating adventurous revelation for movie enthusiasts at the cinema. One of the reasons I enjoyed this film was because of Red the troubled little bird with anger issues. First of all, the irony of an angry foul-mouthed bird was just a delight for the imagination. As some called out at the cinema “Nonyane ye e na le stress” as Red was beyond rude. This performance by Sudeikis as an arrogant fowl was just redefining his talents. There is a scene where Red appears before the judge, and during his sentencing ,he losses his cool to the extent of turning the judge into a laughing stock of the jury. That’s just classic comedy moments. Speaking of which, the comedy dished out by this cartoons is definitely colossal as this movie was a box office number one. What makes the film witty is the fact that it uses sarcasm to relay real life issues/ills. For instance, in the film there is this a stream of water called the fountain of wisdom, believed to possess secret powers. The shocking discovery as to what Mighty Eagle used this water for was just rib-cracking. The cherished mighty bird relieves himself in the water that some worship in. In real life this can be associated with religious beliefs of some churches with what they deem anointing water. No offence, but let’s indulge our imagination with humour drenched in the sarcasm of this film. The plot of the film is good because it is somewhat simple and authentic. Also, it deals with real life events, not fiction. In life we have stigma that Red and others face for their being different.
I enjoyed the fact that among its themes it deals with social issues such as rejection, acceptance, anger, friendship and love. This was symbolised well in the storytelling and director’s efforts as the film is comedy, which still managed to transcend aforementioned issues and their sentimental value. Angry Birds is captivating because of the nature of action the comedy brings. I kid you not when I say this animation has cinemas transformed into loud rooms as a result of giggles and chuckles, as Red’s frustration reaches boiling point.
Stupidity is the catalyst of action in this animation. You get serenaded by angry birds venting their frustration.
Imagine watching a fully grown man beating a teddy bear to a pulp. That is how crazy funny this film gets. It is not fun seeing others hurt, but after watching this film, it was very entertaining. Almost enjoyable to watch Red’s anger.
The cinematography is super crisp. The film has no dark moments as it is set in a crystal clear 3D island as birds thrive in daylight.
