PS worried about payments of ghost employees

Speaking at the MoA Excellence Awards on Friday in Palapye, Khumomatlhare said paying ghost employees is an indication that MoA leadership has poor supervision. “It is very worrisome that some former employees are still being paid even after death while some are paid after retirement. But it is quite clear that these people serve notice three months before their retirement. Things are happening in our faces. This is a sign of poor supervision. It shows that we are not taking our jobs seriously. My office is not taking such issues kindly,” he said.

Khumomatlhare further said that there is a clear sign that those who are working at the districts lack supervision. He said even though there is shortage of equipment the ministry is doing its best to better the situation.

“There are many motor vehicles at headquarters in Gaborone while districts do not have cars hence slowing down production. So we have decided to give the districts those cars to speed up the job,” he said.

Furthermore, the PS expressed dissatisfaction over the complaints that were made by people when they were being inspected by Ponatshego Kedikilwe’s task team. They complained that they are not being assisted well.

“Our things are not going well so we have to solve them internally so that even when we award people it will be for the good course. Other people are complaining that they are not being promoted but when we check with their bosses we find out that they are not impressing at work. These issues are worrying us in the ministry,” said Khumomatlhare.

He said there are other issues whereby contractors who have been working in the ministry’s projects since 2010/2011 years have not been paid. He said this shows there is a lot of relaxation amongst MoA employees. He said because of so many issues, his office will find time and go to each and every district to establish the causes of all that.

The PS encouraged all MoA employees to work as a team both at the headquarters and those at the districts.

“We need to do more with less to ensure that we assist Batswana accordingly. This is a big ministry and it should feed the nation,” Khumomatlhare added.
