Jwaneng Galaxy halted Systems’ 21-game unbeaten run stretching from last season on Saturday with a 2-0 win.

Ironically, Systems last tasted defeat against Galaxy on February 3, losing 2-0. The Galaxy defeat meant Systems had gone two games without a win for the first time this season following a 1-1 draw with Miscellaneous on November 27.

The ‘Alarm Boys’ returned to winning ways in Lobatse to keep their place at the summit of the log, just three points ahead of second-placed Township Rollers, who have played a game less.

“The Galaxy defeat was just a temporary inconvenience, this is a team that we last lost to.

They are organised in and outside the field. They have better resources but in that game we played very well and they benefited from our mistakes,” Systems’ coach, Daniel ‘Chico’ Nare said.

“After two games without a win we had to show character, we had to bounce back and redeem ourselves. I told the boys we will to do that in Lobatse against Gunners, to keep doing what we have been doing.”

He however maintained that his side is not yet title contenders, but was happy to be leading the pack for almost half a season.

“We have never said we want to win the league, it was never our mandate. We used a lot of money since I came here; fighting relegation so I said ‘let’s have a good start so we can all sleep well at night’. We did our job very well, had a good preseason, we were done in the market very early and injuries are kind to us this time around. I may still win the league, or finish second or third but I do not want to finish seventh like we did last season,” he said.

Meanwhile, Notwane stretched their unbeaten run to three games with a 3-1 win over Miscellaneous on Tuesday while Gaborone United were in a menacing mood away to BR Highlanders with a 6-2 win. Chasers, Rollers had to come from 2-0 down at the break to brush aside Galaxy 3-2 at the Royal Aria Stadium.

On Wednesday, Molepolole City Stars lost 1-0 to Prisons XI as Police XI and TAFIC played to a goalless draw.

Orapa United moved to third spot with a 2-0 win BDF XI.
