Masisi was in Bobonong to receive nine former opposition Botswana Congress Party activists, at an event that also doubled as a fundraiser for the construction of the regional headquarters.

The Bobonong region worked wonders for Masisi in his quest for the party chairmanship at the elective congress in nearby Mmadinare, where they came in droves not only to vote but also to campaign for Masisi.

On Saturday Masisi donated P40,000 to the region, as the fundraising reached over P499,000 with the likes of Zac Construction, a company doing internal roads in Bobonong, among the contributors.

Masisi however told them to up their fundraising activities, as they would need at least P5 million for the construction of the regional headquarters, as well as to carry out related activities like campaigning for 2019.

It was an occasion where the Vice President and the area MP, Shaw Kgathi, put up a united front as they both shared pleasantries about each other to the gathering in Bobonong.

Masisi and Kgathi also used the occasion to celebrate a rising youth owned local construction company, Tlou Holdings, which continues to get big tenders and perform well in its projects.

Masisi said the success of the company and others like it is proof that his government is serious about citizen economic empowerment.

Turning to the private sector that donated funds to the Botswana Democratic Party, Masisi urged them not to fund the opposition as they cannot be trusted, describing them as hell-bent on spreading falsehoods and panic among the public. As an example he described how the opposition made voters believe that his government assassinated Gomolemo Motswaledi, the founder of the opposition BMD.

He urged the gathering to put pressure on the opposition to release the forensic report on the death of Motswaledi. “Today it is we, Domkgrag suffering from their falsehood, tomorrow it will be you, the businessmen, and the ordinary Batswana accused of some imaginary corrupt practices, and you will suffer”.
