The Zebras only returned to training yesterday after three days of boycott over allowances.

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) chief executive officer, Kitso Kemoeng announced that the match had been called-off. “The Football Association of Malawi has just communicated their team’s inability to honour the match due to reasons beyond their control.

The BFA therefore, wishes to apologise to all stakeholders, including members of the public, for the inconvenience this development has caused,” Kemoeng said in a statement.

The cancellation means the Zebras will go into a do-or-die Africa Cup of Nations tie against Uganda without a meaningful friendly match after sparring with lowly regular punching bags, Lesotho last weekend.

But Zebras coach, Peter Butler remained positive despite the cancellation.

“We shall just kick on and be positive. We shall just work on the training pitch and get ready,” Butler said.
