Word has been making rounds, particularly on social media that BOT50 will spend millions of pula to bring the American artist.

The coordinator of BOT50, Charity Kgotlasela told Showbiz there is now way they could bring a foreign artist as part of these celebrations.  “That is not true.  We are not bringing Usher here. We have already specified that we have closed the border and not even South African artists will be part of the celebrations,” she said.

Kgotlasela said Batswana artists would solely do all the entertainment activities across the six districts.  She said the reason they hosted the Youth Pop Up Bash in Lobatse with a 100% local lineup was to show that BOT50 could never go back on their promise.

The allegations come at a time when some people are already casting aspersions at the BOT50 organising committee.

Recently disgruntled local artists threatened to disrupt and upset the build-up celebrations to September 30, 2016.  This rumour might fuel more anger amongst the artists, who already feel they are on the sidelines as the build-up to the celebrations intensifies.
