He said the absence of Builders World this year is due to miscommunication on the race dates. He said when the organisers approached the sponsor, it was already late.

“Preparations for the race started late. We were even debating if the race should go ahead or not. The sponsor has agreed to be on board next year,” revealed Vanghan.

He said this year’s race will be sponsored from Tsela Riders coffers. The race starts on Friday at the Three Chiefs Monument in Gaborone with a prologue.

The prologue will see individual riders racing based on the best times. The second stage is on Saturday at Taung village near Ramotswa and the route goes to Mmankgodi. Still on the same day, riders will do a criterium at CBD near the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture. The last stage of the race is a 24km lap in Lobatse. Vanghan said South African riders, who participated in the race last year, will not take part due to commitment in other races.

He said they are hopeful that riders from other countries will attend due the success of the race last year. He said they expect around 200 riders to battle it out.

The race has been divided into seven categories: junior male, open male (19-39 years), open female (19 years and above), male veterans and masters combined (40 years and above), team classification, points classification and kom classification.
