Miscellaneous received cash boost from Botswana Life yesterday

Speaking at a ceremony to hand over the cheque, the insurance giants’ head of financial institutions, Joseph Kuaho said they have been supporting Miscellaneous as technical sponsors but have since decided to shift their objective.

“We are more than happy to alter the objective to meet the more urgent need of the football club this time which was to ensure that the welfare of players was taken care of,” he said.

He said Miscellaneous has demonstrated sterling growth and performance after finishing the season in the top eight. “We are proud of the commitment shown by the team and its management,” he said.

Head of individual life, Moletlanyi Tshosa said partnering with Miscellaneous has been a rewarding venture which saw the team grow from strength to strength. He said as a community club, the team is dependent on supporters and the public for its survival. “In view of the challenges faced by the team in generating funds to keep them afloat, we felt that it was our duty as a responsible sponsor to ensure that the welfare of players is taken care off for the benefit of the community,” he said. The club chairperson, Oscar Sefhako thanked Botswana Life for the gesture and promised to nurture the relationship.

Meanwhile, Miscellaneous have decided not to appeal the Botswana Premier League (BPL) disciplinary committee ruling over the protest lodged against Township Rollers for the use of Ofentse Nato.

The BPL DC last week ruled that both Miscellaneous and Mochudi Centre Chiefs had lodged complaints and not protests against Rollers.

The committee said having lodged complaints both Chiefs and Miscellaneous could not be awarded points, but instead fined Rollers P1,000 for each of the two games.

“We have decided not pursue the matter further because we have nothing to lose or gain. We have made our pointm, but we have since decided not to appeal,” Miscellaneous chairperson, Sefhako told Mmegi Sport yesterday.

Chiefs have since filed an appeal with the Botswana Football Association (BFA) national disciplinary committee, as they believe the BPL DC had failed to apply the right sanctions

The BFA DC recently declared Nato a defaulter and awarded Gilport Lions three points and two goals. The issue took a nasty turn when the BPL board, through the acting chairperson, Rapula Okaile directed the BPL acting chief executive officer, Kitso Kemoeng to deduct further seven points from Rollers.

The developments saw Chiefs staying at the top of the log and declared champions after their draw against Jwaneng Galaxy in their last game. Rollers, however, lodged an appeal with the BFA DC demanding explanation on what prompted the BPL board to deduct seven more points for the games Nato played against Chiefs, Miscellaneous and Police XI. Rollers argued that they could not be penalised without a proper hearing.

The BFA DC ruled in their favour and ordered that protests lodged by Police XI, Chiefs and Miscellaneous be referred back to the BPL DC for hearing. Police XI then withdrew their protest while Miscellaneous and Chiefs were said to have filed complaints and not protests as per the BFA Play Rules and Regulations. Rollers now remain at the top with 67 points.
