According to the secretary general, Shatiso Tambula the extended executive is made up of the central committee, women’s wing, the youth league and ward committee leaders.

“The main purpose of the meeting will be to discuss issues such as the rebranding of the party.  We are on a mission to rebrand the party in order to increase our membership.  We will review some of the current branding initiatives and come up with ways of improving them so that we attract members,” he said.

Tambula said in order for the BPP to attract more members it has to constantly review its branding and recruitment strategies.

Tambula also said they will also come up with suggestions on how they can improve the party’s upcoming elective congress billed for July. “Our conferences are usually not that vibrant, hence we want to improve them beginning with this one and beyond.”

In addition, the BPP leader said they will discuss issues of national concern.

“The issues will include, among others, the current status of education. We will also discuss the Sebina saga and come up with a position because we have been relatively silent on the matter,” said the secretary general.

The Sebina saga involves a Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) councillor, Kemmonye Amon for Sebina South who impregnated a schoolgirl and in the processes allegedly attempted to conceal the incident.

The issue has caused an outcry from rights groups and members of the public.

Tambula said their partners from the UDC will not be part of the meeting.

The BPP has been on a rebranding exercise in recent months in a bid to revive the party’s ailing fortunes.

Most of the party’s techno-savvy members particularly the youth have been very active in the social media in their bid to market the party.

The party has often been criticised for lack of action in the political arena.  In fact, some people even called for the party to disband.
