FIFA cagey on Rollers letter

The letter, written on May 9, two days after the beMOBILE Premiership concluded, was signed by FIFA president, Gianni Infantino.

While FIFA confirmed Infantino indeed penned the letter, it remained tight-lipped on the source of the information which made the soccer body believe Rollers, and not Mochudi Centre Chiefs, were champions.

“We were misled by an external source,” a FIFA spokesperson said this week, refusing to shed light on the source. BFA chief executive officer, Kitso Kemoeng said the association’s president, Tebogo Sebego had not received the letter.

FIFA has since withdrawn the letter as the nation awaits the final decision on who will be crowned champions following a protest-filled campaign.

A ruling this week left Rollers in pole position to nudge Chiefs off the title, just a few weeks after the Kgatleng giants were crowned champions.

This will mean Chiefs’ reign as champions is the shortest in Botswana football’s history.

Meanwhile, the BFA has profusely apologised for the Botswana Premier League mess in a press release this week.
