Club chairperson, Lenamile Letsogile told Mmegi Sport this week that they are in the process of reviving their name. He said Security Systems is a marketing tool for their sponsor. He said the name is still in existence although not registered with the BFA.

“We are excited to have gained promotion after struggling in the Debswana First Division league,” he said. Club president, Gabriel Nkgetse said it was exciting times for his club. He said at the beginning of the season they were determined to gain promotion to the Premier League and their achievement did not come as a surprise.

“We were expecting it after three years of hard work. The first time we gained promotion, but due to unforeseen circumstances, we did not make it. The following year we were knocked out in the play-offs. This time around we won,” Nkgetse said.

He said they are aware that the Premier League is not going to be easy, but they are ready to compete. He said they have better resources than most clubs. Nkgetse said First Division was economic in terms of travel costs while in Premier League, travelling costs more.

“We have to come up with a better way of doing things. Football is not business in Botswana. It should be treated that way. It does not bring profit to my company,” he said.

He said they want to woo other partners to assist the club.

Nkgetse expressed his displeasure towards the squabbles that have engulfed Botswana football. He said the game should be won on the field of play and not in the boardroom. He said when people still have the mentality of fighting in the boardroom, the standoff will never end.

Lesego Rajusi, the club manager said they do not intend to overhaul the team that gained promotion. He said the team had worked hard to achieve success. Rajusi said it is risky to make changes. He said they might bring people who do no have the same hunger as the lot that won promotion. Boys communications manager, Mike Nkgetse said plans are underway to set up supporters branches countrywide. He said such branches will play a crucial role in assisting the team financially.

Meanwhile, Letsogile said First Division sponsor, Debswana was not visible on the ground. He said it is high time teams were given a platform to negotiate with the sponsor instead of depending on the mother body.

“We were told that the sponsor had released some grants to the teams. We have not received anything. We only received kits last season and we were never given balls as per the sponsorship agreement,” said Letsogile.
