Government has set aside a budget of P100 million for the overall BOT50 campaign, but officials yesterday declined to reveal how much had been spent or allocated thus far. Kgotlafela however said the money was not enough.

“The financial year just began. We will update you after the first quarter. What we have been awarded is not enough and we call on the private sector to help us make this a success,” she said.

Kgotlafela said after the auditions, a cast of talented locals will, on September 29 and 30 perform at the National Stadium during Independence Day.

“The search, which will be conducted by way of audition, will take place in eight cities and towns. Auditions are open to all who have an interest in participating in the celebrations, not just professional dancers,” she said.

The coordinator revealed that a panel of three judges, comprising Shanti- Lo, DJ Sly and award winning actress, writer and poet Mbali Kgosidintsi, will sift through the hopefuls.

Kgotlafela also said work is ongoing to have the auditions televised, such as happens with the popular My Star, which BOT50 is benchmarking on. She said a documentary of the journey will be produced at the end of the auditions.

BOT50 has so far spent heavily on free music shows in Lobatse and Selebi-Phikwe, which have featured huge line-ups of paid artists. In addition, the campaign has held a meeting with dikgosi drawn from around the country, while also spending on advertising, administration costs and branding.
