Botswana Economic Success To Be Celebrated

Termed ‘50 Years of Economics and Business’ the project will celebrate through an investment symposium and a publication. The investment symposium, billed for December this year, intends to have a holistic and cumulative discussion of all policies and programmes that affect the economic and business development of Botswana.
The publication, to be titled ‘50 Years of Economics and Business Coffee Table’, will showcase the success story that is Botswana.
Flagged as the main headliner of 50 years of economics and business review in 2016, the publication will provide an opportunity for local and international businesses to celebrate with Botswana by sharing their stories of contribution to the country’s development.
Kebonang said his ministry decided to support the project as it drove government’s efforts of youth empowerment and citizen entrepreneurial development.
He said the success of the project would put the private sector, corporates, enterprises and entrepreneurs and their combination to Botswana’s business and economic culture over the last 50 years.
“It sells Botswana as the best destination for private investment as articulated by industry executives, CEO’s and business owners and founders,” he said. “It will also enhance business and economic literacy on Botswana.” Kebonang said the project would also provide a guide to the outlook of Botswana’s investment, economic and business climate. The private sector and other organisations should play a meaningful role in taking this story out.
The Publishing Partner, Kagiso Habangana, said 50 Years of Economics and Business, a project that took three years to put together, seeks to celebrate the economics and business culture that saw Botswana growing from one of the poorest countries to one of the fastest growing economies over 50 years of independence.
Habangana said the primary objective of the celebrations was about finding ways of sustaining the growth and how to improve it.
“We are putting together a timeless celebration of Botswana’s growth which will be done through a publication and a symposium which will accord an opportunity to learn from leading economies how over the long term policies and programmes have influenced growth and development,” he said.
The investment symposium, slated for December, will have a holistic and cumulative discussion of policies and programmes that affect the economic and business development of Botswana. The symposium will be an ideal platform to hold discussions about how pillars that speak to commerce and industry in Botswana can be achieved.
