“It is worrisome. The BFA (Botswana Football Association) leadership has to stand up and act decisively. If nothing is forthcoming, we will have to intervene in good time. This is about selfish interests and is a self made crisis,” Reikeletseng said.

He said they are still waiting for feedback from the BFA after a meeting among the soccer body, the BNSC and the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Thapelo Olopeng last month. “At that meeting, we had resolved that the BFA goes back and try to find solutions as quickly as possible. What is happening at the moment is not a true representation of what football should be,” he said.

“I am very worried. The BPL (Botswana Premier League) issues are taking too long to resolve. You see one crisis after another and this is disheartening. We hear about the registration of a Township Rollers athlete being challenged, the deduction of points, now that the (BPL) chairperson acted unlawful. That’s the definition of chaos,” Reikeletseng said.

He said election years always bring about chaos with the affected code bearing the brunt.

“I hear there are elections in July. Elections always take a code 10 steps backwards and this is unfair to the football industry. Now people are watching as elephants fight,” he said.

Reikeletseng noted the minister will intervene if there is no immediate solution. Olopeng has been keen to act, but was reportedly told to delay his action to allow the BFA to find solutions.
