DK Deserts Motswaledi

Both party officials are allies of Motswaledi, who has been suspended by President Ian Khama. They had earlier indicated to the party that they will be Motswaledi's witnesses. However, another ally of the BDP secretary general, Leach Tlhomelang testified at the disciplinary hearing. The failure by Kwelagobe to testify casts more doubt on his support for Motswaledi given that recently he asserted that he has made peace with Khama.

Although Kwelagobe and Khama recently told a BDP rally in Kanye that they had buried the hatchet, Motswaledi later asserted at a press conference that the chairman has not abandoned him. Kwelagobe provided a supporting affidavit in Motswaledi's High Court case against Khama. He has never entertained media inquiries about his peace deal with the President since the announcement at the Kanye rally.

Party insiders say Morwaeng hatched a plan to get out of the case when he stayed put at the hearing when other witnesses were giving testimony, contrary to regulations. It is suspected that he knew that according to procedure, he was not supposed to hear the testimony of others before he takes the witness stand. Once he had violated regulations, he was disqualified from appearing as a witness.

Meanwhile when contacted on Saturday, Morwaeng refused to comment officially  regarding the allegations that he deliberately attended the hearing before taking to the witness box.

He said he does not want to comment on the issue ahead of the general elections, adding that he does not wish to dwell on issues that might distract the Party from the coming general elections.
