Defiant BFA to appoint Nare

Initial reports that BFA was eyeing Nare for the job drew furious reactions from Butler who said the Extension Gunners coach can only be his assistant “over his dead body.” However, impeccable sources have told Mmegi Sport the national association is going ahead with the appointment, with or without Butler’s blessing.

“It is not about Peter (Butler) but about the nation.

BFA feels there is a pressing need to create a pool of coaches in the event Butler and other national team coaches leave. Peter will be consulted on the matter but eventually, it will be about the country and not an individual,” said the source.

Butler has previously threatened to resign if Nare is appointed his assistant and has said he will decide his future when he returns from England on May 8.

The source further said the jettisoning of Nare is meant to quell fears over Butler’s current assistant, Boyo ‘Oris’ Radipotsane’s ability to takeover once the Englishmen leaves.

“People have been asking themselves if Radipotsane is the right man to take us forward in the event Butler leaves.

The appointment of Nare, in some way, is a direct response to that,” continued the source.

Contacted for comment, BFA chief executive officer, Kitso Kemoeng was reluctant to discuss the matter, insisting no technical appointments had been made.

“No appointment has been made. Consultations are on going. We are presenting a pool of coaches throughout the national teams,” Kemoeng said. Butler refused to comment on the matter.
