BNSC affiliates demand meeting with Rakgare

Some affiliates said they were in the dark regarding the BNSC annual general meeting (AGM) after it was postponed last year.
Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) president, Oaitse Thipe said it was necessary for the minister to meet the affiliates.
“It is important for the minister to address us because as we speak, last year BNSC AGM was cancelled and as we speak we are not sure when it would be held,” he told Mmegi Sport. Botswana Cycling Association (BCA) president, Mmetla Masire wants answers regarding BNSC meeting its affiliates.
“Why not ask BNSC when next they are meeting codes, and if the new minister is planning to meet codes collectively or individually. The BNSC has not met codes for a very long time, and the AGM keeps being postponed,” Masire said.
Reports indicate that the AGM would be held in March.
Other affiliates, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said it was critical for the Minister to convene meetings with them at the earliest possible time.
There was no immediate comment from the BNSC, as there was a board meeting yesterday.
Minister Rakgare said he deals with sport codes through BNSC. He said even funding was channelled through the Commission and not individual codes.
He said there were 41 sport codes, and he cannot be expected to address all of them.
“Who said it is my role to address sporting codes? Why are they not saying that I am doing something on culture, which is diverse? Why can’t they say I have failed to address the youth who are dealing with unemployment?” he asked. The youthful minister also took time to lash at reports that he was due to be moved from the ministry.
“Did President Masisi say that? Those are baseless rumours and you should not believe that,” he said.
“I am still new in the office. If the President removes me from office, I would not blame him because he would be performing his duty. He has the power to move ministers around if he sees the need to do that,” Rakgare said.
