The post was left vacant following the departure of South African, Serame Letsoaka who has joined FIFA.

Letsoaka had recommended Kaelo ‘Wire’ Kaelo to take over, but that has reportedly not gone down well with a certain section of local coaches. Some argue Kaelo does not hold the requisite qualification for the technical director’s job, but he is the handpicked successor.

“There are some people who are fiercely opposed to his appointment. But the BFA has apparently taken a decision and identified Kaelo as their man,” said a source.

The BFA has said it has not made an appointment, but Kaelo is seemingly closer to taking over. He has flown out to Morocco to attend a coach education officer’s course, which has sparked speculation that his move to BFA was a done deal. “It was a done deal until the moment when the technical committee recommended that the post should be advertised,” the source said.

BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti said there was no decision yet on the technical director’s post, as they have to advertise first.

He denied that Kaelo is in Morocco to represent the association. He said last December, Kaelo and Duncan Tshegofatso, had attended a similar course in Zambia, and the trip to North Africa was a continuation.  “It could have been anyone, it could have been Duncan. It is not true that Kaelo has attended on behalf of BFA,” Letshwiti said.

He said when appointing the new technical director, they would consider a candidate who is a CAF instructor, or closer to the qualification. The courses that Kaelo has been attending would push him closer to being a CAF instructor, a move that is expected to give him the edge.
