Sebego said there was progress made despite chaos reportedly reigning supreme, with particularly sharp exchanges between the president and Motlogelwa.

“We did make progress although there were disruptions,” Sebego said yesterday.

A faction opposed to Sebego has reportedly hatched a plan to disqualify him from seeking re-election.

“The Monday meeting was supposed to be the launching pad for Sebego rival’s campaign as they intended to suspend him. Sebego was asked to recuse himself as the meeting was discussing the BPL issue.

The plan was to ask him to step out and then in his absence a vote of no confidence was going to be passed, but he refused to recuse himself and that is how he survived.

Apparently someone from the opposing camp, who had attended the faction’s meeting, betrayed and alerted Sebego of a plot to pass a vote of no confidence in him,” a source close to the developments said.

There have been several unsuccessful attempts to pass a vote of no confidence on Sebego and eventually suspend him, which will effectively rule him out for the running for a second term. The BFA holds an elective congress between July and August.

Sebego is said to be feeling the draining effects of the fights for the top post although the opposing group is yet to agree on a candidate. The Motlogelwa camp meets this weekend in Palapye in a bid to finalise on the person to take Sebego head on.

“The other group feels Sebego has failed in the last four years and it will be improper to give him a second chance. That is why they will try by all means to halt him. They are not yet done with him and believe they will finally get him,” continued the source.

“Sebego now dreads the polarised NEC meetings. The atmosphere is polluted and there is little progress at the moment due to the rivarly.”

It now remains to be seen if Sebego will survive ouster plots between now and the congress. He is confident of retaining his seat.

“I am ready for re-election. My campaign has been quiet but effective. The structures want continuity and believe that we have positively moved over the past four years. I am not worried at all,” Sebego said.

Meanwhile, the Monday meeting recommended an interim management structure for the strife torn BPL with both vice president technical and administration tasked with meeting the Premier League board. “They should be reporting about their agreement because they did meet,” Sebego said.
