Young talent gone too soon: Mogatusi died from head injuries

The Botho Ryders player passed away on Friday due to head injuries sustained in a league match recently.

Ryders chairperson, Simon Kanaimba told Mmegi Sport yesterday that the deceased joined the club in 2013 as a flanker.

He said the deceased showed leadership qualities and this season he was chosen as the team captain. He said Mogatusi was the best thing ever to happen to Riders.

“I have lost a brother, a player and everything. It is difficult for me to talk about him. He was one of a kind,” said the emotional Kanaimba.

Mogatusi played for Vultures in 2015 and this year he was also selected to be in the squad.  Meanwhile, Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) has taken a decision to embark on safety campaigns for coaches and players.

The exercise follows on the heels of Mogatusi’s death last week. BRU secretary general, Ernest Mantsi said the workshop is meant to teach players about tackling techniques.

“We will be going to all our clubs and teach them about safety measures in the sport. Safety is very important in rugby,” said Mantsi.

Mogatusi will be buried on Sunday in Malolwane in the Kgatleng district. BRU has made arrangements to collect contributions towards preparations for the funeral from all sympathisers across the sporting family.
