Karate faces fresh problems

According to a source who spoke to Mmegi Sport this week, all is not well at BOKA. He said affiliates are not happy with the committee because they have not achieved their mandate since their election last year.

“The committee has failed to review the BOKA constitution and Commissions do not exist. There were no minutes of all previous general meetings including non-delivery of all action items from those minutes. They appointed themselves as coaches, referees and team managers,” he said.

The source said BOKA Foundation Trust, funeral scheme and website are no longer available.

The source said the affiliates questioned why Shihan Mpho Bakwadi and his student, Khaya Groth were nominated for Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) awards. Meanwhile, former national team coach, Sensei George Tshikare has been deployed to the junior national team. His assistant, Peter Molefe has been appointed the national team coach.

Tshikare told Mmegi Sport yesterday that he was not given the reasons for the changes. He said his successor does not possess better qualifications than him.

Despite that Tshikare said affiliates reversed the decision by the committee and it was agreed that an advert for the coach should be flighted to give everyone a chance.

“I know what am capable of. BOKA must make an advert for coaching, and everyone has to apply for the job. The committee has agreed that chief instructors will assess the applicants,” said Tshikare.

He said the board will assess the applications due to the absence of the technical commission.

Efforts to get a comment from BOKA president, David Mathe were futile at press time as he had not responded to Mmegi Sport text messages.

Karate is fresh from a crippling internal fight which saw the sport fail to send karatekas for international competitions.
