Softball fever: The BOFINet Softball league will be launched in Orapa this weekend PIC: KENNEDY RAMOKONE

The launch is the beginning of action for Northern zone teams. Rebels and Carats welcome Scramblers, Ghetto Yankees and Sua Raiders to their own turf. The game promises to be a thriller as players have been thirsty for game time.

Some of the games would be played at Itekeng stadium while the others would be at Rebels ground.

A lot is at stake for Rebels after their good run last season. The highest achievement was when they won a bronze medal at the Phikwe Extravaganza tournament.

The club manager, Badika Mosweu told Mmegi Sport that as the hosts, they were in charge of preparing for the launch.

He said everything is in place including accommodation for the visitors. Regarding the readiness of Rebels, Mosweu said the team has been working hard to prepare for the new season. He said the intention is to reach the championship.

“We have beefed up our squad with four players and we hope that would be enough to see us winning games,” he said.

Raiders coach, Manonthotho Seisa said they have prepared well for tomorrow’s challenge. He said the postponement of the league had an impact in the preparations.

“Waiting for the league to start somehow affected (preparations). It was like moving backwards and forward but we are glad that things are now in order. I have recruited six players for the women’s team and seven for the men’s side. We are going to Orapa for battle,” he said.

Meanwhile, Scramblers are also riding high but Carats and Rebels are itching to pull revenge after losing to the side last season. Bobby Khupe said his charges are in shape and ready to compete. “We would play four games which I think is too much but I hope we would go through. Our league in the north is played in tournament format to reduce travelling,” he said.

Khupe said last season they beat Carats and Rebels at the same tournament only to lose to Rail Giants in the next leg.

“Carats and Rebels are powerhouses this side and I am aware that we owe them and they would be coming to collect. But we are ready for them,” he said.

Meanwhile, action continues at the National Diamond. Gatalamotho are leading the men’s log with four points. Wells come second with the same number of points and Panthers are third.

In the women’s side, Dinare are leading after winning all their games followed by Titans while BDF come third. Tonight BDF women take the battle to Bears in a game that promises to be a thriller. The men’s game follows afterwards.

Other fixtures: Saturday: Titans vs Eagles (women). Titans vs Blue Angels (men). Dinare vs UB Giants (women). Dinare vs UB.
