Kgafela said Pheto had agreed to acting in the role even though he was initially reluctant to occupy the throne.

Kgafela announced that his troubles with Nyalala Pilane were now a thing of the past and that he will be replacing Nyalala on September 24. He added that Pheto would be deputised by a certain Mothibe.

Kgafela also announced that Pheto’s role will be to take care of Bakgatla’s wealth and to unite Bakgatla all over the region, adding that he was giving his new chief in Moruleng a 10-year period to complete his work and present a full report to the morafe on September 24, 2026.

However Kgafela stressed that in between, he expects Pheto to use the wealth of resources in Moruleng to once and for all nip poverty in the bud among Bakgatla. He claimed that Moruleng was endowed with resources that make Bakgatla the richest single tribe in the whole of Africa.

According to Kgafela, Bakgatla are stinking rich but they are not aware of the size of their wealth.

He said he had assigned the tribe to go and consult among themselves between January and March, ahead of meeting with him in April.

Kgafela said he has received written and oral reports, indicating that the royal house in South Africa met and agreed to field Pheto as their chief.

He alleged that a reputable audit company had unearthed corruption in the Nyalala administration.

Kgafela said although the South African security authorities were initially reluctant to use the audit findings to prosecute his nemesis, Nyalala, their attitude has changed of late.

It is not clear whether Kgafela has been recognised as the tribal authority in Moruleng, after the North West Province premier Supra Mahumapelo recently rejected the findings of a commission that had dismissed him as the rightful owner to the throne.

Since he was installed in 1996 by Kgafela’s father, Kgosi Linchwe II, Moruleng Kgosi, Nyalala Pilane went on to transform the fortunes of the tribe, by seeking mineral partnerships in his platinum rich area, as well as successfully opening a modern mall as part of his ambitious plan to turn the village into a city.

He has also built a modern stadium, which today attracts top South African Premier League matches.

Water reticulation, sewerage system, building of roads, have been some of his success stories while other ongoing fascinations include building a golf-course, hotel, private hospital, among others.

The formation of a tribal company has also seen his efforts scoring success in establishing industries like firewood treating and packaging, manufacture of clothing for mining companies in his concession, establishment of a TV station that aims to compete with the best in South Africa. As part of the poverty eradication efforts, the administration donates goat-milk to various villages.
