Job hunt: Galaxy says Kavazovic has not yet landed the top job PIC: KENNEDY RAMOKONE

The club has been under the tutelage of assistant coach, Boyo Radipotsane following the sacking of the Portuguese mentor.

Club spokesperson, Tankiso Morake said there is no truth in reports suggesting that the former Township Rollers and Gaborone United (GU) coach has landed the job. He, however, said Kavazovic was amongst the candidates who were interviewed for the job.

“It is not true. As we speak right now, no decision has been made. I can confirm though that he did come to the interview together with other coaches,” he said though talk seems to be running amok that the Serbian mentor has landed the job. “What is left now is for us (team management) to make a decision. Hopefully by next week we would have finalised everything regarding the vacant post.”  Kavazovic left an impressive record at Rollers, winning the league and Mascom Top 8 before he took them to the group stages of the CAF Champions League.

However, his stay at city rivals, GU lasted only for a few months before he left unceremoniously following a scuffle with the supporters at the Molepolole Sports Complex. While some of the coaches usually prefer bringing their own assistants, Morake said under the current situation that is not possible at their club, paving way for Radipotsane to keep his job.  There were reports that certain supporters also wanted him out of the team following the departure of Da Costa. But Morake said it will be costly to allow an incoming coach to change the bench.

“These people have running contracts and were we to allow that to happen, it would mean we will have to spend a lot of money paying out their contracts,” he said. He said when they finally make a decision on the coaching post, the preferred candidate will have to share the same dream and targets.

“Our target is very clear. We want to win the league this season and the Orange FA Cup. When we finally pick the man for the job, we would look at whether he shares the same mission. We have never played the CAF Champions League and we cannot wait any longer,” he said.

Meanwhile, Morake laughed off allegations suggesting that they started courting Kavazovic at the time when he was still at GU.

“Why would we do that when we had the coach at the time?” Morake wondered. He said Da Costa was fired simply because the club realised they might not be able to accomplish their targets.

He also said they have since managed to talk to some supporters who appeared to have been irked by the sacking of the Portuguese coach. “They eventually understood why we had to take that decision,” he said.
