Damaging Draw All But Eliminates Chiefs

Coach Michael Sithole however refuses to throw in the towel despite a damaging stalemate.

The draw saw Chiefs fall behind in the race for the title as other title contenders, Township Rollers and Orapa United won their respective matches. With injured central defender, Keabetswe Jenamiso out for the season, Chiefs played Lesego Galenamotlhale at the heart of the defence alongside Thato Kebue.

The first chance of the match went the BDFX1 way as early as the eighth minute. Chiefs’ defence failed to clear what looked like a harmless ball and BDF XI winger, Keeagile Kobe took advantage and slotted past goalkeeper Mompoloki Sephekolo. 

With things not going their way, Chiefs made an early substitution replacing left back, Kaelo Kgaswane with Ontse Ntesa in the 38th minute. However, it was BDF XI who had another good chance before the halftime break but they misused it. Khumbulani Madziba took a shot at goal and Sephekolo parried it onto Kobe, but his shot went narrowly wide. Kobe’s goal separated the two sides at half time. 

In the second half, Chiefs made another substitution and replacing ineffective Ayanda Molefhe with Thatayaone Ramatlapeng. The change worked wonders as Ramatlapeng went on to get an equaliser four minutes after coming on. BDF XI had the chance to take another lead moments later, but Sadiki Takunda failed to hit the target. Towards the end of the game BDF XI’s goalkeeper, Mwampule Masule made a good save before his side hit Chiefs with a counter attack. The cross bar came to Chiefs’ rescue from Kobe’s shot.  Chiefs have now dropped to position three on the log.

After the game, BDF XI coach, Beston Chambeshi said he has to work on his side’s finishing. “It was a game of chances and once again we failed to convert. We should have wrapped up the game in the first half,” he said.

Chiefs’ coach, Sithole said his side would fight until the last game. “The league is interesting and keeps everyone guessing,” he said.
