Twenty-eight years later, with multiple milestones passed, MultiChoice Botswana gathered staff, customers, media and other entities which helped shape and mould the proudly Botswana business to a celebration of the MultiChoice Botswana story.

MultiChoice Botswana hosted a celebratory event detailing its contribution and commitment to Botswana at Thapong Visual Arts Centre on Thursday.

“Rooted in the soil of Botswana and nurtured by the hopes of a nation, MultiChoice Botswana was born with the vision of proactively contributing to the country’s economy and playing a major, positive role in Botswana’s future,” MultiChoice Botswana Managing Director, Katlego Arnone said at the event.

She added that throughout its existence, ‘enriching lives’ has been the driving principle and continues to honour the promise through the employment opportunities they create.

“Our corporate social value initiatives put our customers at the heart of every decision each of us make everyday. Guests at The MultiChoice Botswana story event goers were delighted with various stories of how MultiChoice Botswana positively impacted the lives of Batswana from various walks of life, as told from those affected themselves,” she revealed.

On how the opportunity to be at the helm of the first locally produced reality TV show impacted his business and created a spin-off effect for him and the young creatives he employs, Onkabetse Reikeletseng of Motion Blur said producing and filming Date My Family Botswana was equally one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of her career.

“I had to learn quickly what it takes to create content that could take Botswana to the rest of the region.

Words cannot express how much I learned from this experience, how grateful I am for how it advanced my career and how it ignited a fire in those that I refer to as my team members,” she proudly said. Other speakers included Ruth Tsheko, an employee at MultiChoice Botswana’s Gaborone branch who has been with the business for over 20 years, Serena Mmifinyana, Class of 2018 alumni of the MultiChoice Talent Factory Academy in Lusaka, Zambia and Carol Kgafela; a passionate DStv subscriber who detailed how her TV time with DStv has become an integral part of her life.

The MultiChoice Botswana Story event also held a locally curated art exhibition which featured photos taken by local photographer, Batho Motlhake, and visually detailed the 28-year journey MultiChoice Botswana has been on. The title of the exhibition was aptly called: #ReMoTeng.

Whilst taking guests through the visual journey of the contributions made by this locally run business, Arnone commented that: “I can only say that I truly hope our people, the people of Botswana, are cognisant of how passionate we are about being a Botswana brand.

We have a saying that we live by and it’s “Re Mo Teng.” This saying is what keeps us going everyday in doing our part to show how committed we are to enriching the lives of Batswana.”
