Despite losing to Mafolofolo in one of the matches, Dynamites showed character.

For the first time in history, Dynamites won the first set against Mafolofolo. But Mafolofolo used their experience to come from behind and win the game 2-1 in the deciding set.

Dynamites coach, Mpho Tlhaselo was pleased with the performance of his players. He told Monitor Sport after the match that the tournament was important in preparing for the league season. Tlhaselo said he had an opportunity to try different combinations.

“I gave my players a chance to play in different positions and that worked well.  That has given me an idea on how we are going to play in the league. My centre blocker, Koketso Seile had a good game, thwarting Mafolofolo attackers,” he said.

Tlhaselo said playing against big teams like Mafolofolo boosts the confidence of young players.

For his part, Mafolofolo coach, Kabo Ntshinogang said preparations for the new season are going well, especially for the men’s team. He said the pre-season tournament was important for his men’s team.

He felt that the women’s side was ready for the league and did not need much work. He said there has not been any major changes to the women’s team.

“The men’s team needs a lot of work. I have brought in new players who have just completed secondary school. The transition from school volleyball and club volleyball is difficult. Club volleyball needs speed, power and quick thinking,” he said.

Ntshinogang said he still has a lot of techniques to teach the players such as spiking and blocking. He said the danger with local players is that they do not stay long with the same club. He said if they could stick around longer, by next year they would be better.

Spiking Stars (men) and BDF VI (men and women) were also part of the tournament.
