Kavazovic Leads Galaxy To Fa Q/Finals

The goals by left back, Moagi Sechele and striker Patrick Kaunda in the second half ensured that new coach, Nikola Kavazovic starts his new journey with the mining town side positively.
Galaxy started on a good footing, with countless attacks coming from their right flank where Thabo Leinanyane and Thero Setsile were combining well. However, Rovers defence led by veteran defender, Calvin Masire stood firm and thwarted their efforts.
Rovers could have opened the scoring in the 27th minute when striker, Lucky Molefe won the ball from Galaxy’s last man Lebogang Ditsele, but his heavy pass to Thabang Mogomotsi meant that the opportunity was lost, as he could not control it with just the keeper to beat.
With Galaxy playing carpet football and enjoying much possession, Rovers adopted a defensive approach with the hope to catch them on the counter using the pace of their striker Molefe.
The game went to recess with the teams deadlocked.
After the break, Galaxy’s left flank where Sechele and Gilbert Baruti were operating became busier, orchestrating most of the team’s promising moves. It was from one of their good moves that in the 52nd minute, Sechele scored the opener, after finding space inside the box.
At the other end, Rovers missed an opportunity to equalise following a misjudged pass by Galaxy goalkeeper, Katlego Mbise.
With Rovers looking for an equaliser, coach, Patrick Molefe made three substitutions by introducing Boago Montshiwa, Thuto Kgosimore and Elias Jorodane. The trio sparked life into the team’s game and started to create a few chances.
But Kaunda scored Galaxy’s second goal in 67th minute to send his team through to the next round.
After the match, Rovers coach Molefe said his side played well against a strong team. He said their game plan was to contain Galaxy in the first half and catch them in the counter, but they conceded goals against the run of play.
“Now we have to turn our focus to the league where we are not doing well. Our next assignment is a derby against Chiefs and we must get the three points,” he said.
Galaxy coach, Kavazovic said his charges played well and stuck to the game plan. He said it was a tricky fixture as “Rovers’ talented young players wanted to prove a point”. He said while his side was good on the day, Rovers gave a good account of themselves and were unfortunate not to have scored at least two goals.
