Speaking at Safdico’s Graff Leadership Centre in Mochudi during an event organised in recognition of International Women’s Day last week, Moses said strides have been made to attain equality, but more needs to be done.

She said Safdico, one of the world’s leading diamond manufacturing and trading organisations, places high importance on women empowerment at work and in communities. Moses said every level of achievement by women should be celebrated.

“The purpose of this event is to celebrate our collective efforts to support beneficiation and create employment through various initiatives, which promote empowerment for our youth, women and the citizens of Botswana,” she said.

Moses stated that Safdico’s policy is to drive beneficiation by investing in the communities in which it operates through the group’s FACET (For Africa Children Every Time) Foundation.

“This is why we partnered with Stepping Stones International to run the Graff Leadership Centre on our behalf,” she said.

Moses said the centre houses and sponsors the ‘Finding the Leader Within’ leadership programme.

The scheme aims to empower and provide opportunities for the youth to build leadership skills and become self-sufficient in their communities by gaining employment, engaging in entrepreneurship or returning to school.

For her part, De Beers group chief finance officer, Susanne Swaniker-Tettey said the Count Me In campaign the diamond giant launched in 2017 is designed to encourage as many people as possible regardless of gender to commit to HeForShe by working towards finding solutions to support gender equality for the benefit of all.
