BNSC violates Act over AGM

The BNSC chairperson, Marumo Morule said failure to hold the meeting was a blunder. The Commission was scheduled to hold its AGM yesterday (Thursday), but was forced to shelve the meeting due to the coronavirus outbreak. A new date has not been set.
“Yes, I admit that failure to convene an AGM is a challenge. I acknowledge that. We have been busy preparing for the AGM but unfortunately it had to be called off,” he said.
Failure to hold the AGM has attracted criticism. “The BNSC board and secretariat are missing the point and it seems like they have no clue, especially on sport development. They are now violating the Act by failing to convene an AGM. Again some of them have been interfering with National Sport Associations (NSA) elections to ensure weak leaders who would not take them to task are elected,” a source said.
The source further said the excuse that is used by the BNSC after failing to convene the meeting was that there was no board.
“They might shift the goalpost and say it was the responsibility of the minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC) to appoint the board chairperson and eventually the board. They would also hide behind the political changes in the office of the minister,” added the source.
But Morule dismissed the concerns and said the sport would never be on autopilot, as it is in the hands of the secretariat. Morule said NSAs were able to convene their meetings without fail as guided by constitutions.
