Gunners have been hit by a spate of resignations in recent years

The two were instrumental in the club’s commercialisation drive which is at an advanced stage. “Yes I have resigned,” was all Kebopotswe could said.

Masie’s mobile phone was unavailable but in a letter to the club, he cited professional issues.

“Kindly receive this letter as a resignation from being the president of Extension Gunners football club with immediate effect. “I would like to thank you all for the confidence you had in me when you elected me the club president but regret that I will not continue in this role due to professional and integrity reasons.

“I assure you to remain a bonafide Extension Gunners supporter and ready to provide any services for the betterment of the club,” his letter reads.

Gunner’s public relations officer, Edwin Mabapa said they received the president’s  resignation letter on Sunday evening and learnt of Kebopotswe’s departure on Thursday. He expressed disappointment over the two’s departure, but said they will ‘carry on’ with the commercialisation  venture.

“We saw the secretary’s resignation letter, but he did not state reasons why he resigned. We will still carry on with the commercialisation project because the whole institution has given us a mandate. Those who will come into office will carry on,” he said.

Mabapa further said it was worrying that in the middle of such a project, resignations occurred.

“It can raise an alarm, but we are clueless as to why the secretary general left. It is unfortunate because he has not yet told us why he left,” he said.  The spate of resignations within Extension Gunners administration have become prevalent in recent years. An entire committee resigned in 2010 following unrest at the club. The current Extension Gunners committee came into office in December after their predecessors led by Kitso Dlamini left the office vacant.

Mabapa said there was nothing amiss within the committee which could have forced the two to quit.

“We don’t have any scuffles at the club, but what I can say is that we always differed regarding opinion. It is worrisome because we have been working closely. We have been advising each other. There have been complaints there and there, but we did not have scuffles. One thing I can confirm is that we were not consistent with meetings.”
