The football season would be reaching its peak with the title race heating up, fight for the top eight and engulfing battle to survive the chop with eyes also set of the cup tournaments. As for table tennis, players would be fighting the top spots in the rankings before the season. While for motorpsort, rugby and softball would be readying for the playing fields with athletics warming up to take on the track.

However, it is a sorry sight in different sports venues for the autumn of 2020. The cheers, jeers and colours characters are missing in these usual packed placed. However, the local sports stars have been able to find something to keep them busy after the government stopped all sporting activities due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The football stars have since joined their international counterparts in the #stayhomechellenge where they compete in keepy-ups with a toilet paper rather than football. Some have been successful while others have ended rather embarrassingly. A number premiership stars including Township Rollers’ duo, Mothusi Cooper and Tumisang Orebonye, Ocean Lottering of Molepolole City Stars and Gaborone United coach Pontsho Moloi amongst others have also joined the challenge.

Sprinter, Leungo Matlhaku’s attempt to secure an Olympic games berth has been halted by the pandemic. But she has since the challenge joined her peers in sport. Judging from a video shared on her Facebook page, maybe she should just stick to the sprints.

Top ranked table tennis player, Tshenolo Mooketsi was having a rare off weekend. However, it is business as usual for the BDF Club player. “A bad inactive weekend because I am used to being active every weekend but now everything has stopped. But doesn’t mean I have to stop my training, doing work outs at home. I just want to maintain my fitness, I just need to avoid dropping, and I do not want to start afresh when play resumes,” he said.

With the national team selections in sight, netball team star, Fatimah Dinoh has been able try to keep her hands away from the pigskin, but not physical training which he has resorted to. A number of sports stars shared pictures and videos engaged in different escapades, some spending time with family, rested with others trying to keep fit. It seems like it was not a bad inactive weekend after all.
