Coronavirus: Progressive Churches Live Stream Sunday Service

This followed a step by government on Saturday to restrict gatherings to just 10 people in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Churches such as Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) Tlokweng branch, Eloyi Mogoditshane branch and the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) phase 2 in Gaborone are among the churches, which the police dispersed on Sunday holding their usual services. However, some churches avoided any gatherings and resorted to reaching out to their members by live streaming their services.

Bible Life Ministry announced on their Facebook page that in light of the gazetted new regulations restricting the number of people gathering for religious activities to 10, they would live stream their services. The church also gave out an account number for those who want to give tithes.

“Due to the confirmation by MoHW that indeed the number of people allowed for public religious gatherings is now down to 10 from 100, the leadership of the church has therefore concluded that there will be no church services at all tomorrow (Sunday),” read a message on their Facebook page posted on Saturday evening further stating, “The few people who will be coming to church are pre-determined, no one else will be allowed within the church premises. We are complying fully with the government directive. The Bishop’s message for tomorrow will be live streamed on our Facebook page”.

3G Ministries, which attracts hundreds of congregants every Sunday in Kopong live streamed their service through their leader’s official Facebook page Prophet Cedric Ministries. Judging by the comments on the page, it seems the service attracted over 400 viewers on the day.

Other churches that took advantage of technology and relayed their pastor’s Sunday messages live include the Roman Catholic Church and AFM Mogoditshane branch
