Khama will address democrats in the area on Saturday, while Nasha will lend her weight to the Umbrella for Democratic Change’s (UDC) efforts on Sunday.

Khama and Nasha have engaged in a no-holds barred verbal war in recent months, following the latter’s defection to the UDC. Khama will on Saturday lead an in-house party meeting at Montsamaisa Junior Secondary School as the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) heightens its campaign for the ward by-election.

Some government ministers and party executives at the meeting will accompany Khama. Yesterday BDP Francistown South branch chairperson, Ford Moiteela confirmed the weekend meeting.

“The meeting will merely be to encourage party members in the ward to vote the BDP and work cordially towards winning the by-election.  We have others who are not in the BDP, but have promised to vote for us.  They will also be part of the meeting.”

He continued: “As for the ministers, we have called them so that they clarify certain points regarding government initiatives. When we are on the campaign trail we often get questions which we cannot answer regarding some government policies.  We want to seek clarity about these respective initiatives so that we are not found wanting during campaigns”.

Moiteela also confirmed that the BDP planned to bring popular South African rap star, Cassper Nyovest for its candidate, Peter Nare’s launch in a bid to woo support from the youth, who are said to be shunning the ruling party.

“This is, however, an issue that we have left for the promoters to deal with. If they manage to secure his services we will let the public know.”

For sometime there have been reports in the ward that the party has lined up the rapper for the launch.

On Sunday, UDC’s Nasha will headline a star rally at Phillip Matante East.

UDC spokesperson, Moeti Mohwasa said that the main purpose of the rally is to maintain high momentum leading to the April 23 by-election.

He said some UDC activists will accompany Nasha. The UDC recently launched its candidate, Uyapo Nyeku for the by-election.
