BIC signs with Happy Boys FC

The sponsorship is part of BIC’s CSR strategy which aims to assist The Happy Boys F.C in reaching its mandate of assisting with youth empowerment and enhancing talent in Botswana.

TheP5,000 sponsorship  was unveiled on April 2, 2016 at the BOFWA grounds in Kanye through a mini soccer tournament which comprised of three Kanye based teams and one from Lotlhakane to contend for a trophy and medals. The tournament followed a litter picking campaign which was done in the morning around Mongala mall as a way of giving back to the community. The Happy Boys clinched the title at the end of the tournament.

The Happy Boys Football Club is an upcoming football club of passionate young men based in Kanye. The team was formed back in 2007 with an aim of growing into a bigger team and a vision of combating youth unemployment through self sustained projects which will generate income for the team. BIC has seen sports development and nurturing young talent as another way of giving back to the society hence TheHappyBoysFootballClub sponsorship. In 2014, BIC donated football kits, accessories and equipment such as balls, air pumps, balls and cones to the team.

BIC continually makes efforts to assist the team with the hope to making a difference in the young men’s lives by motivating and inspiring the team to become professional players, football coaches and motivators to other young boys in their communities, but most importantly to keep them positively distracted from societal pressures of alcohol and drug abuse. The organisation desires to organise at least two entrepreneurial seminars for the team and offer the skills and expertise as and when the need arises for whatever activity through staff volunteers. BIC also intends to help the team come up with a self sustaining project to which BIC will fund and mentor the young men.

The Happy Boys FC currently raise money by participating in the constituency league and holiday tournaments. Their future plans are to register in the Southern Regional Football Association and BIC is offering assistance to help them achieve their goals and vision.
