“We are not worried much about the tournament being moved to June as it will give us more time to secure sponsorships for the boys and make sure that they are 100 percent fit for action,” the Botswana Basketball Association (BBA) public relation officer, Tumelo Boima said.

Boima said it was a blessing for the team as they will now have extra time to prepare for the tournament and add more arsenal into the team.

PoshRentless playmaker, Churchill Barrows said the team will start preparations for the tournament this coming weekend. “We now have more time to practise as a team and individuals,” he said.

Meanwhile, South African basketball team Duzi Royals, which finished second in the South African Basketball National League (BNL) will tour the country for a pre-season match with local basketball 2015 champions, Troopers.

The two teams are set to clash on April 15 at a venue yet to announced.  The return match takes place in Durban on April 22.  “This will be an opportunity for local players to be scouted as they will be exposed on a bigger and competitive platform as we are trying to build a relationship with South African sides,” Boima said.  After the completion of the FIBA 3x3 tournament, television channel, Supersport invited BBA officials to the neighbouring country in a move that saw a relationship with the South African basketball community established.

“What I can say is this year there is a lot of basketball action that will take place. We started with the FIBA tournament, next will be the Duzu Royals tour and another project that I cannot reveal at the moment. As for the league, it is scheduled to start in May,” Boima said.
