The main aim of the seminar was to teach players, referees and coaches on the rules and regulations of the game. This came after the rugby governing body realised that it is essential for players to know the rules and regulations of the game. Zilwele Khumalo, who is the BRU rugby developmental officer and also a referee, conducted the seminar. Khumalo said it was necessary for the referees to make the right calls and signals and that players should adhere to the officials’ calls.

He also touched on the issue of tackling in rugby. He explained the legal and illegal tackle that players make and how a tackle is done without risking penalties.

He emphasised that players should abide by the game rules and display appropriate conduct. He elaborated that players need to practise fair and clean play or risk expulsion or a ban. “Players need to conduct themselves in a respective manner towards the referee,” he said Khumalo indicated that players need to know when they are off side or on side. They also need to know what to do to keep them back in the game if they found themselves on off side lanes or areas.

He highlighted that it is very crucial for a player to know when there is a scrum or a kick.
