Aon has committed to a second donation towards the end of April to Government’s COVID 19-Disaster Relief Fund, bringing its contribution to the fund to P200 000.

Botswana is already on a 28-day lockdown, after President Mokgweetsi Masisi declared a state of emergency to help curb the spread of coronavirus on 2 April 2020.

The hospital-grade hand sanitiser was donated by Cleaning Services Botswana and STC Chemicals to add to Aon’s fund donation, while grocery items were purchased by Aon from The Spar Group.

“As the largest broker in Botswana, with the highest number of citizen employees, we understand just how important it is for business to be actively involved with and invested in the wellbeing of our communities and colleagues. Our country, and indeed countries across the globe, face unprecedented challenges when it comes to mitigating and alleviating the devastating impact that the pandemic and lockdown is having on our citizenry and economy. The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the stark realities faced by poor communities during this time, and the grim outlook that many small businesses now face, along with the people they employ. Now more than ever is a time for solidarity and for business and Government to come together to play our role for our communities and the recovery of our economy and social structures during this crisis,” says Barnabas Mavuma, Managing Director of Aon Botswana.

“Many forces are reshaping our world and entire industries, and Covid-19 has without any doubt highlighted the important role that business needs to play in society, and that goes well beyond the traditional myopic focus on financial performance. As Aon we take our ethical and societal responsibilities very seriously, and we are both proud and humbled to be part of the COVID 19-Disaster Relief Fund which Government has established to assist those in need. It is up to all of us across the public and private sector to play our role, and help navigate our way back to certainty, recovery and growth,” concludes Barnabas.
