Zebras struggled to spark off dazzling attacking performances they put up when they dismantled African giants, Burkina Faso and Mali, during two matches that will live long in the hearts of their faithful followers.

Butler said he did not expect an easy game against the Les Coelecantes and praised his charges for the overall performance.

“I think we should give credit to Comoros.  They have built a very good team. They have been very bold and they have invested a lot of money in overseas talent,” he said.

“I knew it was not going to be easy, anyone who thought we were going to roll them over was kidding themselves. They are a good side.  I was proud of these lads. They have showed a lot of character, but we had to change it because we got a bit casual and we took the foot of the paddle.”

The Zebras players struggled with their combinations and looked heavy on the ball. Comoros played comfortably and set back well for an away team. They had their chances when going forward, but lacked a killer instinct.

Comoros watched as the Zebras struggled in a 3-5-2 formation and picked well the pockets behind the Zebras midfield.

Comoros broke the deadlock when Mohamed Alfardou rolled the ball to M’changama Youssouf in front of the box and the French-based attacking midfielder struck a first time shot into the upright that left Dambe wanting.

Butler made a tactical change from recess and the Zebras piled the pressure, while Galabgwe Moyana restored parity in the 47th minute.  Comoros failed to clear a Mogakolodi Ngele corner and the ball fell for Moyana in the 18-yard box.  The attacking midfielder took a low drive that went through a forest of legs into the net.

After the goal, the Zebras momentarily took control but went back to their slumber. Comoros could have punished the home side with crosses as they continuously fumbled in defence. Nonetheless, the Zebras found the winner in the 87th minute.

Moyana picked Joel Mogorosi with a pin point cross in the penalty area and the veteran striker picked his spot in the bottom right to send 16,171 fans in attendance into wild jubilation.

The Zebras now face a must win two matches against Uganda in June and Burkina Faso away in September.
