The BFA and the government are still in talks over the possibility of assisting football during the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.

Football activities remain suspended since last month, which has hit most of the clubs’ bottom line.

Letshwiti said while there has been no decision yet, it might happen that some non-compliant clubs do not benefit in the event the government releases the funds.

He said there were some clubs, which were not compliant with the Registrar of Societies or Companies Act.

“I am not saying that this is what is going to happen, but the government has stated that those entities that benefit from the release funds must be compliant. The funds are not available yet, we are still in discussions with the government,” Letshwiti said.

Early this month, the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Tumiso Rakgare announced the government would assist affected clubs pay salaries.

Rakgare told Mmegi Sport this week that the decision on the funds to be distributed, lies with the BFA.

“They (BFA) will be tasked with making a determination of who should be assisted and who should not, obviously with a strong justification,” Rakgare said.

He did not give a timeframe as to when the funds would be released.

The BFA chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo recently wrote to the association’s regions, reminding them that the funds would be distributed on merit.

“On another note subsequent to the message released by the (BFA) president on Easter Friday, any relief from government or FIFA will be based on merit and compliance. Teams must be compliant with the Registrar of Societies Act and Companies Act. This is in line with the circular that was issued from the General Secretary’s office to all our structures,” Mfolo said.
