BOMAWU on the arrest of Sonny Serite

Botswana government’s intention is to stifle dissent and weaken freedom of the press and expression.
We implore the nation to demonstrate solidarity and encourage us to stand for our rights, our freedom and our love for this country, during this time of distress.
Despite all the red lines and all the existing censorship, journalists will continue to provide information that the Khama regime cannot tolerate and we are unapologetic about that.
What the security agents are doing is barbarism at its worst form and their continued threat to journalists will not bend us, but make us walk straight and continue our probe on corruption which is prevalent at government enclave.
We are a tree planted by the riverside and shall not be moved even by bullet, torture, denial of legal representation, tapping of phones et. al.
We, BOMAWU, demand the judicial authorities to swiftly release the arrested journalist and to prove that they respect the laws of this country.
Philemon Mmeso
