Stanbic Launches Mobile Banking Branch

Speaking during the launch, the bank’s head of customer channels, Calistas Chijoro said that the mobile branch came after the realisation that it could be used as a fully operational branch as it has all the features that any other branch has.

“The mobile branch will provide the bank with business continuity capability as well as to exhibit the bank’s products and services at national events such as trade shows and various exhibitions,” he said.

The branch which is mounted on a 4 by 2 truck offers cash deposits, cash withdrawals, cheque deposit and encashment, account enquiries, account opening, transfers and issuing of cards as well as enquiries and application of loans.  It can also be used as a standalone ATM offering cash withdrawals and instant money redemption.

“Our intention is to better the lives of our customers by taking the bank to the people.  We want to provide our customers with a platform to transact anywhere they choose.

The mobile branch comes as there is a growing need to offer convenient banking service to customers,” he said.

According to Chijoro, they believe that providing good service is all about being where customers want them, taking services to the people and interacting with customers to strengthen the relationships.

He added that the mobile branch for now would not have a fixed schedule as it mostly will be used on crowd-pulling activities.

“The truck has CCTV cameras, which will be monitored every second and there are also panic buttons.  For safety reasons, the truck is bullet proof even the glass between the teller and the clients is bullet proof.  There would not be any cash in transit,” he said.
