Local companies pocket P1.6m from Francistown matches

He was answering a question on behalf of the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC), Thapelo Olopeng.

Maele said MYSC is committed to empowering local entrepreneurs based in Francistown and the surrounding areas. He said it will therefore continue to engage them.

The companies which were engaged to provide services such as catering, cleaning, entertainment, directing proceedings and security were Pro Guard Security, Cresta Marang Hotel, Tati River Lodge, Shield Security and Set View Holdings. Maele added that individuals had also benefitted.

Francistown East Member of Parliament (MP), Buti Billy had wanted to know the companies that benefitted from the matches played at the Francistown Sports Complex.

The MP also wanted to know the nature of services offered as well as the amount paid for the work they did.

In a supplementary question, the MP for Gaborone North, Haskins Nkaigwa asked about the criteria used to award tenders for the provision of services.

Maele said the usual government tendering or procurement system was followed.
